Girls quit hostel on gang molestation.

A majority of girl students of the Boddaputtu Tribal Welfare High School for Girls in Vizag district was vacated their hostel and left for their homes on Monday, protesting the suspension of the headmaster, Chanda Elia, and the warden Satyanarayana, over the rape of four students by local youth.

The project officer placed them under suspension on the orders of the district collector, Shyamala Rao. However, the girls put up a notice at the hostel saying that they would return only when the duo was reinstated.

Parents and local residents also said it was wrong to blame head master who in the past lodged several complaints with the police to check eve teasing near the ashram school. But no action was taken.

The school has no compound wall or security to protect the inmates and they had been living in an insecure ambience. ‘Anybody can walk in or walk out of the hostel as we do not have any security,’ said a teacher.

Villagers told the media that after the girls were assaulted, it was head master informed the assistant tribal welfare officer, but he did not pass on the information to higher officials.

Few days ago, four of the girls from same area were raped by offering them sedatives mixed in cool drinks. That is the sorry state of affairs in Vizag Tribal area folks…
