Hyderabad,Dec 28: Tension prevailed on the Osmania University campus on Monday when the police arrested six students,who were on indefinite fast demanding separate Telangana.About 17 pro-Telangana students are on fast at the Arts College since Thursday after the Centre announced the reversal of the process against Telangana statehood.Tension broke out as the police took six fasting students into custody as their health showed symptoms of deterioration.The students mobbed the police and picked up an argument with the police expressing their solidarity with the fasting leaders.

The students raised slogans against the police and asked them to vacate the campus.However,the police shifted the fasting leaders to hospital.Earlier,the police shifted 12 students to hospital and the students are still continuing their fast at the hospital. Meanwhile, security has been enhanced on the Osmania University campus with deployment of additional forces apart from the Central Reserve Police Force which is stationed there.Osmania University Vice-Chancellor T Tirupati Rao visited the hunger camp and asked the students to express their protests in a peaceful and democratic manner. The students demanded that the V-C reopen the hostel messes at the university,which were closed on Dec 24.
