Vijayawada, Dec 23: The work on the prestigious Information Technology park coming up at Gannavaram in the district has been completed.The first tower with a plinth area of 1.92 lakh square yards, main road, internal roads, electric sub-station etc,have been taken up in the first phase at a cost of Rs 70 crore.Basic infrastrucure for the It Park is being provided to facilitate the companies to set up their shops. The foundation stone for the It Park was laid by the then chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on May 27, 2006 on a sprawling 30.60 acres.

The L&T formulated a plan to raise five towers in over a plinth area of 11 lakh squre yards at a spending of Rs 350 crore. Once these works are completed, 15,000 people would get direct employment and 45,000 more would get indirect employment. Already two companies have started functioning.The L&T marketing wings are in touch with four more companies to set up their units. L&T CEO Udayabhaskar has said after the inauguration of the first tower, construction on the next tower would be taken up immediately. He said at present Tektrax and Extranet Software Solutions companies are functioning. L&T vice-president R Srdharan is holding talks with the Government to rope in Chief Minister to inauguarte the first tower as more companies are evincing interest to open their shops here.
