The CBI spokesperson said the regional officer had demanded money for processing a case of increase in intake of seats of a Faridabad-based engineering college.

The owner of the college brought this to the knowledge of the AICTE chairman, the adviser and the deputy director but no action was taken by them. They continued to harass the owner and forced him to give money, the spokesperson said.

The Human Resource Development sources said the Ministry took the step after Yadav defied its instruction to step down or go on leave in view of the inqury pending against him in the corruption case filed by CBI early this month.

The CBI on July 16 arrested AICTE member secretary K Narayan Rao besides registering corruption cases against Yadav, Regional Officer Sriom Dalal, Deputy Director Robinder Randhawa and Advisor H C Rai.
