With many districts in Rayalaseema region being lashed by heavy rains, transport services have been thrown out of gear. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (Apsrtc) and the Railways have cancelled or diverted most of their services in the flood-affected regions. As Mantralaya remained cut off from Hyderabad, bus services to the pilgrim town was affected.

According to Apsrtc Managing Director V Dinesh Reddy, services to Bangalore are not being operated as of now, but might start once the water-level recedes from the bridges. “We are constantly monitoring the situation,” said the Director.

Talking to media persons, he said that the Apsrtc has cancelled 300 bus services to the Rayalaseema region due to floods and rains. The bus services to Kurnool, Mantralayam, Raichur, Srisailam, Bellary, Ananthapur, Hindupur, Dharmavarm, Davanagere, Hospet, Tirupati, Belgaum and Bangalore were cancelled. He said that the corporation would return their money for those who have booked their tickets in these areas.

 The Apsrtc would resume its services once the flood situation improves in the Rayalaseema region, he said. He asked the drivers and conductors to take precautions to ensure safety of passengers in the rain-affected areas and also to evacuate the stranded passengers to safer places.
