Vijayawada, Sept 30 :

 At least, five devotees of Goddess Durga were killed on the spot and four others sustained grievous injuries in a collision between an auto and an APSRTC bus near Nidamanuru in Vijayawada in Krishna district on Wednesday.

The mishap occurred when the Durga devotees are heading towards Vijayawada to have the darshan of Goddess  Kanaka Durga to mark the conclusion of ten-day Dasara Navaratri festival on Indrakeeladri. The identities of five deceased are yet to be ascertained. The seriously injured have been shifted to Vijayawada Government General Hospital. Some of their condition is stated to be critical, according to the hospital sources. Vijayawada police have registered a case.

In another mishap that took place between lorry and RTC bus on Rajamundry Road-cum-Rail Bridge, 15 people received injuries.  Both the drivers of vehicles sustained grievous injuries. All the injured and drivers have been shifted to the Government General Hospital in Rajamundry.

The drivers’ condition is stated to be serious, according hospital sources. All other passengers were discharged from the hospital after the primary treatment. In the mishap, both the lorry and RTC bus collided head-on on the road-cum-rail bridge. Following the mishap, the traffic was disrupted for more than two hours on the bridge. Police had a tough time to manage the traffic.
