Vijayawada hoteliers set world record for biggest dosa

Hotel owners of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation have prepared the biggest dosa in the world and entered the Guinness Book of World Records on Saturday.

Vijayawada Hotel Owners Association president Murali Krishna informed that the record breaking dosa, measuring an astonishing 38 feet was prepared here on Saturday at Siddartha College grounds as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Vijayawada Hotel Owners Association.

He said the attempt was being made to bring recognition to the chefs and highlight the favourite dish of South India.

Guinness Book of World Records representative Elizabeth Smith told media persons that the earlier record for the biggest dosa was held by the Sankalp chain of restaurants who had made a dosa measuring 32.5 feet in Mumbai in 2006.

Ms Smith had been especially flown in from London, the Guinness Book of World Records headquarters, to witness the making of the world’s largest dosa. She expressed her satisfaction at the arrangements.

About 30 people had been practicing for the world record attempt since the past week.

Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of State for Human Resources Development D Purandeswari, Minister for Mines and Geology Galla Aruna Kumari, Minister for Tourism and Sports Vatti Vasanth Kumar and Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal were also present at the venue to witness the record being set.
