Citizens, irrespective of caste or religious affiliations, bid Lord Ganesh goodbye for the year on the final day of immersion of the idols on Wednesday.
The spirit of brotherhood and amity was on full display at the historic Charminar where Shah Ali Banda Majlis-e-Ittehadul Corporator Mohammed Ghouse warmly welcomed the procession with packets of food, water and prasadam.
Perched on a specially erected stage, Mr Ghouse and his supporters distributed the packets to the processionists.
A little further away, the AIMim’s main political adversary, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit president G Kishen Reddy was perched on a stage of his own, welcoming the processionists.
Mr Kishen Reddy also distributed prasadam among the devotees.
Talking to INN, he said that he was pleasantly surprised to see the brotherly camaraderie displayed by the Mim leaders.
Stages like the ones used by Mr Ghouse and Mr Kishen Reddy were visible at a number of places along the route of the Ganesh processions in Old City, right up to Tank Bund, welcoming the devotees.
Ministers Sabita Indra Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Danam Nagender along with city Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, MP Anjankumar Yadhav, BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya and others also conveyed their greetings to the people of the city and welcomed the devotees.
