Tollywood is going through dire stairs because of streaming mediums. Of late, filmmakers and distributors are witnessing the negative effect of the OTT resolution. Early streaming of films in these platforms is affecting theatrical business. Especially, the overseas market of Telugu films has been shrinking due to Amazon and Netflix.
While promoting stylish star Allu Arjun starrer Ala Vaikunthapurramloo, makers stated that the film won’t be available in any OTT platforms such as Amazon and Netflix. They were then lauded for taking a great initiation. But, now, they are getting trolled for selling the digital rights to Sun Nxt where the Trivikram Srinivas directed film will be streamed from 26th of this month.
It seems makers of Ala Vaikunthapurramloo had released the poster as to bring overseas audience to theaters. In fact, their trick worked wonders as the film did exceptional business in the region.
But, now the makers are getting slammed for not standing on their promise. Had they didn’t see digital rights or at least not giving the permission for early premiere would have inspired others to follow.
On the other hand, the other sankranthi outing- superstar Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru team displayed Amazon Prime Video in title cards.
Ironically, Ala Vaikunthapurramloo is making its digital debut first. Sarileru Neekevvaru digital date is yet to be confirmed.
