Film industry always scouts for new stories. Filmmakers are aware that only novel storylines with entertaining elements will appeal to movie lovers. So they select storylines that have modern thoughts and work on them. Even if they find such stories in other languages and other industries, they acquire the rights and remake them.

Of late the makers realized that there is no need to have novel storylines to attract movie lovers but they can do so with old plots narrating them in an interesting manner. Tollywood is nothing new for mythological and period entertainers. In the early days, filmmakers used to get inspired by mythologies and later set their sights on historical entertainers.

Whenever there raised questions on whether filmmakers cannot think in a creative manner, they looked for period and mythological entertainers. They scored hits like Annamayya, Srirama Rajyam, Sri Ramadasu, Rajanna, Kanche, Gautamiputra Satakarni, Rudramadevi and Ghazi.

The makers' outlook changed completely with the sensation of Baahubali and Rangasthalam. It has become a trend to select historical entertainers and add great visual effects for success or select period films and recreate that atmosphere on screen.

Mega Star Chiranjeevi's Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is a historical entertainer based on freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. The makers are highlighting pre Independence era with extravagant visual effects.

Ram Charan, NTR's RRR with Rajamouli too features the stars as Alluri Seetha Rama Raju and Komaram Bheem with the story having fantasy and historical backdrop. Rana is starring in a mythological entertainer Hiranya Kasyapa. He is also starring in a period film Virataparwam which highlights the emergency era.

Prabhas' next with Jil fame Radhakrishna Kumar is a love story with a period backdrop. Rajasekhar's Kalki has the 1980s backdrop.

Point to be noted is even young directors are showing interest in historical entertainers. They are even going to the extent of doing extensive research for authenticity. Recent release Mallesham too highlighted the Telangana village atmosphere in an appealing manner.
