Till sometime back Tollywood used to get scared at the mere mention of word experiment. Many used to shy away from doing so and played a safe game. Most of them showed safe game confidence that a high voltage introduction of the hero, five songs, six stunning fights would be enough to break box office records.

Stars and producers used to take strong classes to directors whenever they came with creative stories saying 'if we press the experiment button, people will not come to the theatres and instead they may think we are making art films. Even if by chance we come with statements like experimental film and story, people will laugh at us".

The entire country used to look down Tollywood for its routine commercial potboilers despite churning out a record number of films every year. There used to be talk that Tollywood films were loaded with heroes singlehandedly bash goons and stunts will be in a gravity-defying manner.

But of late trend is changing completely and top stars are not considering commercial stories. Chiranjeevi set aside regular stories and is doing Sye Raa, a biopic on freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, thus realizing his dream of playing the role of a freedom fighter for the first time on screen.

Prabhas with Baahubali attained nationwide stardom. He is now coming with a stylish entertainer Saaho. Mahesh Babu for the first time is playing the role of an Army Major in his upcoming entertainer Sarileru Neekevvaru.

Even comedian Priyadarshi is starring in a biopic on Mallesham. Anil Sunkara is coming with a biopic on Former Indian President Abdul Kalam. Even Varun Tej's Antariksham, Naga Chaitanya's Majili and Nani's Jersey are experimental films.

Varun Tej is turning boxer for his next, Venkatesh is turning a horse rider for his next and many more stars are thinking on the lines of experimenting to surprise everyone on silver screen.
