Industries are needed for the society, but they should not prove to be a bane to the locals of the particular region, feels Lok Satta president  Jayprakash Narain.

Commenting on the proposed thermal power project by the Nagarjuna Constructions Company in Sompeta, Jayprakash told newsmen here, on his way to Sompeta, said why should the Government opt for a thermal power plant when so much gas is available on the coast. The power generated in the state should not be sold to other states, he opined.

``There is no need for a thermal unit in the paddy fields by evicting the local farmers. Only after  visiting Sompet, I will express the opinion of my party on the proposed thermal power plant,''  Jayprakash noted.

When asked about the recent byelections, he said the atmosphere in Telangana is very tense. It is better not to talk  of it now. Money did not play any major role in the elections.

Granting separate statehood for Telangana is not  the panacea for the people of Telangana nor will it prove  to be a disaster.
