Cabinet gives green signal for Hyderabad Metro

The state Cabinet on Friday gave green signal for the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail Project to be constructed by engineering and construction giant Larsen and Toubro.

The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Rosaiah at the Secretariat on Friday, gave its principal approval for the Rs 12,312 crore infrastructure project.

The government also decided to clear 270 acres of land for the project in Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts.

Initially the project will be built in three routes covering 71.6 km in Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts.According to sources, the foundation stone for the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail Project will be laid in January 2011.

Earlier, Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy said that the Centre would give Rs 1,458 crore towards viability gap funding (VGF).

Reddy said that the project will be completed in five years and become operational to solve the traffic problems in Hyderabad city.
