Satyanarayana had the least suspicion that he is in for trouble when he was admitted to the Gandhi Hospital in Musheerabad in the city. He was admitted there for a common hernia operation.

As soon as the hospital authorities learnt that Satyanarayana has an Arogyasri card, issued by the state Government, they tried to send him to a corporate hospital immediately for ``better treatment'' under a corporate hospital.

Accordingly, Satyanarayana was referred to the Mahesh Hospital and Research Foundation at Himayathnagar where he was diagnosed and operated upon for gall bladder stones removal. The hospital withdrew Rs 1 lakh from the beneficiary's Arogyasri account.

When the patient's relatives questioned the doctors for the goof up, the doctors said hernia operation does not come under the  Arogyasri benefits and hence they had to operate for gallstones removal.

Soon, the relatives staged a dharna in front of the hospital alleging large scale corruption by the hospital management to grab Arogyasri funds. The state Health Department officials began an inquiry in this connection.
