AICC president Sonia Gandhi is positively keen on forming Telangana and a separate statehood would be carved out as soon as the Srikrishna Committee submits its report, stated Pradesh Congress President D Srinivas said here on Wednesday.
"Telangana is not going to take long. Sonia Gandhi is positive about Telangana. The new state would definitely come after the Srikrishna Committee submits its report. Congress is in power both at the Centre and in the state. It is this government which has to give Telangana. So, please vote for Congress," Srinivas, who is being fielded as nominee in the July 27 by-elections, stated.
The PCC chief is expected to contest from Nizamabad Assembly seat. The bypoll to Nizamabad and nine other constituencies in Telangana region was necessitated following the resignations of sitting MLAs to their seats in support of separate Telangana demand.
Srinivas, earlier lost to BJP's Y Lakshminarayana in the 2009 Assembly election. The two are contestiong again in the byelections.
