A committee of senior officials to study the fee structure in the neighbouring states has been constituted. Its report would form the basis for the government to take a decision on the fee structure within a week, he added.

According to sources, the fee prescribed for State engineering colleges is Rs 32,400 under the convenor quota and Rs 91,000 for management quota.

However, the colleges are demanding a hike up to at least 45,000 to ensure provision of quality education as per AICTE norms

The government may consider allocating some seats in engineering and medical colleges for students coming from other states, Ramana said.
