Allaying public fears over the fate of welfare schemes launched by former chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, Health Minister Danam Nagender on Tuesday said the government would continue them despite the financial crunch.

The Minister’s statement assumes significance in the wake of the demand by a few MLAs to review  the schemes initiated by YSR in view of the the state's financial position.

Danam told reporters the government will neither roll back the schemes nor dilute them. “Whatever may be the circumstances, the government will not dilute the schemes,” he said.

“When YSR was alive, they did not say anything against him and lauded the schemes. Now, they are blaming them for the financial crisis in the state,” he felt.

The minister hinted action by the party high command against  the MLAs who made comments against party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Danam also criticized Telugu Desam  leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao for stating that he would block MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s Odarpu yatra in the Telangana districts.

The Minister asked Rao to reconsider his decision. “In a democracy anybody can travel anywhere freely. Nobody can block the fundamental rights granted by the Constitution,” he said.
