A high alert was sounded on Wednesday across Hyderabad  after the Intelligence Bureau warned the police authorities of the presence of dreaded terrorist Viquaruddin in the city.

Hyderabad police commissioner A K Khan told reporters that there were intelligence reports of a  terrorist plan to strike in the capital “Since Hyderabad is the target of terrorists, we are taking all security measures,” he said.

Security was beefed up at information technology companies, bus and railway stations, shopping malls, theatres and defence establishments here.

Policemen here and in the adjoining Cyberabad have been checking vehicles and frisking commuters at several traffic junctions since Wednesday evening. However, the police have not yet detained anyone. No description of any terrorist has been available till now

 The commissioner also cautioned the citizens to be wary of suspicious objects left unattended to at busy squares or street corner dumpyards.
