There is no proposal before the state government to privatize the International Institutes of Information Technologies, stated Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy.

Talking to reporters on Friday, Reddy said the government reduced the annual intake of students from 2000 to 1000 as the existing infrastructure in these institutes—particularly the hostels and faculty—was grossly inadequate.

Due to paucity of funds, the Minister said the government has not yet released Rs 150 crore due for IIITs.Nearly Rs 600 crore is needed for running these institutes, set up by former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, on the lines of Indian Institute of Technologies, he pointed out.

The Cabinet took this decision for providing better infrastructure facilities to the existing students. He said the government would consider increasing the seats in IIITs after improving infrastructure from the next academic year.
