TDP denied permission to hold Maha dharna on Prakasam barrage

The proposed Maha dharna by the Telugu Desam Party  on April  9 on Prakasam  barrage  may not come through as the  Government  has denied the party  permission to conduct dharna.

According to the reports submitted to the police by the Irrigation Department  the safety of the barrage is at stake if  such massive dharnas are conducted on the barrage.

Against this backdrop, police commissioner Rajendranath Reddy told the media that permission was denied on the basis of the report of the irrigation authorities.

Tdp leaders are gathering in large numbers for the dharna as the party Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu would be participating in it.

Arrangements have already been made to move farmers in large numbers to the barrage for the dharna. In this connection  traffic ACP Suresh Babu, West Zone ACP  Prakasha Rao and Irrigation SE  D. Chandra Rao visited Prakasam  barrage on Tuesday evening.

In the report submitted to the police commissioner later, irrigation authorities said that the railings of the barrage and the footpaths were damaged and there would be danger if large number of people were allowed to gather on the barrage.

As an alternative, the authorities have suggested  the Tdp leaders to conduct the dharna either at the Sitammavari Padalu or at the statue of Potti Sri Ramulu.
