Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Dr. N. Raghuveera Reddy on Monday said that the Centre’s move to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes has pushed the people to severe inconvenience.  He said that though the government was claiming that the move is being appreciated by the common people, the reality is different.

The PCC chief visited various ATMs and Banks in Vijayawada and met people waiting in queues to exchange their old currency.

Speaking to media persons later, Raghuveera Reddy said that the demonetization was not new to the country but the NDA government has not done enough as part of the process. He questioned as to why the government did not print enough volume of currency notes to supply to the people. He demanded that the government should make public as to how much volume of money it had printed while demonetizing 14 lakh crore rupees worth currency notes. He said that the Rs 2000 note brought out by the Centre is of no use as the people have to face further difficulty to get change in smaller denomination. The government should have made available Rs. 500 notes also to the people though banks and ATMs, the Congress leader said.

Raghuveera Reddy said that the Centre has created a financial emergency like situation by its illogical decision. He said that there is chaos at all banks and ATMs and people are struggling to get their own hard earned money. He held the government responsible for the deaths of 70 people who died due to various reasons arising out of the demonetization process.
