The Andhra Pradesh Government has organized Eruvaka Pournami, to mark the beginning of the farming season across the state on a massive scale.

Public representatives and officials took part in the programmes to mark the occasion across the district. The event is being held to reiterate that the government will support the farmers in a big way. Accordingly, the administration had asked the farmers to wash the oxen and decorate them with flowers and start tilling the land after performing puja.

Irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswar Rao participated in EruvakaPournami in Gollapdi village in Vijayawada. The minister along with the district collector A. Babu entered into the farm field to tilt the land. However, the officials accompanying the minster had to face the ire of the minister as none of the officials joined the minister to tilt the land. Irked at this, the minister lost his cool and reprimanded the officials. “Have you come here for a review meeting, until you don’t experience the hardships at the farm, you cannot understand the problems the farmers are facing?,” the minister remarked. Falling in line, all the officials then entered the field and tilted the land along with the minister and the Collector.
