New Delhi/Hyderabad, Dec 24: Twelve Congress Party members of Parliament belonging to Telangana region have tendered their resignations in protest against the Centre’s decision to seek a fresh consensus in the State and thereby putting on hold the formation of a separate state.The twelve MPs from Telangana region met at Andhra Bhavan on Thursday morning following a statement issued by Union Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday night altering the one issued on Dec 9.The MPs decided to meet Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy who is from Telangana region. However,it is not clear whether Reddy will decide to resign.Congress MPs Madhu Yashki Goud from Nizamabad and Poonam Prabhakar from Karimnagar have expressed their desire to quit in deference to the sentiments of the people they represent.

Some Congress MPs who held a separate meeting at the residence of Nalgonda MP G.Sukhender Reddy in New Delhi also decided to submit their papers to party supremo Sonia Gandhi.The MPs plan to meet Jaipal Reddy and convey their decision. The MPs told newsmen that Reddy being a Union Minister, he fell under a different category and a decision by him should take into account various other factors.While Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao representing Mahabubnagar and MP Vijayashanti resigned to their seats on Wednesday by sending their papers to Lok Sabha Speaker,other party MLAs began submitting their papers on Thursday.
