Tirupati, July 11 (TNN): Thousands of patients breathed a sigh of relief after Junior Doctors of state-run Government Ruia Hospital called off their five-day strike and returned to work on Saturday.
Over 200 resident doctors stayed off work for the last five days demanding better infrastructure, security arrangement and availability of life-saving drugs. The doctors' strike almost paralyzed medical services in the hospital. Every day, nearly 1500 patients from Tirupathi and neighbouring states were suffering from lack of medicare due to the protest at the Ruia Hospital.

After several rounds of negotiations with Hospital Superintendent Mr Venkateswarulu, the resident doctors have called off the strike. All of them have joined work on Saturday. The Junior Doctors resorted to a snap strike following attack on their colleague by the relatives of one Gopi (28), who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, alleging medical negligence.
Their main demand is the arrest of guilty and book criminal cases against them.“These incidents are on the rise and we have received complaints from other districts too,” Junior Doctors said.
