Hyderabad,Dec 7: Peeved by the brutal police action on students and  the media on Monday on the  Osmania University campus,Home Minister,Sabita Indra Reddy, had a war of words with Chief Minister K Rosaiah and  even threatened to quit the cabinet. However,on the advice and persuasion of the Chief Minister, not to precipitate the matter by taking hasty step, the Home Minister relented and agreed not to press her resignation. The police authorities were also advised to act in letter and spirit on the directions of the Home and not over-react in their action against the Telangana agitators. The Osmania University campus was virtually flooded with  police personnel to curb  the  activities of the agitating  students.

Trouble  brewed  when the police removed the tents pitched before the Arts College building and even set up wire fencing to barricade the entry of students from different directions. When the  students resorted to wild protests the police not only  cane charged but also entered the hostel premises, including the girls hostel and ordered the inmates to vacate. The news about the police action spread like a wild fire and students from different parts of the state capital started pouring into the campus leading to a tense situation. When the employees and teaching staff reached the place and protested against  the police highhandedness, the students started pleading with the police with folded hands to leave the campus. Soon a scuffle ensued and the police resorted to lathi-charge injuring  many students.

Media not  spared

The police, who had barred media personnel from entering the campus premises, noticed many of the journalists, especially the TV crew covering the lathi-charge, rained blows on them.
