Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Friday announced that he would challenged the Union Cabinet's decision to bifurcation Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana State in the Supreme Court of India.

Describing the decision as "unconstitutional" and "undemocratic", Rajagopal said that the State could not be bifurcation without passing a resolution in the State Assembly. He said that certain guidelines on bifurcation of the State were violated while taking a decision on Telangana. Citing the landmark judgment of 1994 in SR Bommai Vs Union of India case, he said that the Supreme Court has established strict guidelines for invoking Article 356 for imposition of President's Rule in a State. He said that the decision to divide Andhra Pradesh was imposition of Centre's will on the people withtout their consent.

Rajagopal hoped that all Congress leaders from the Seemandhra region would support his move.
