The MPs alleged the Karnataka and Maharashtra are constructing dozens of lift projects and barrages on the Krishna and Godavari rivers illegally.

Earlier, the state government has decided to take the help of Opposition parties to fight against the construction of illegal projects across Krishna and Godavari rivers by Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is learnt to have agreed to lead a delegation to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to present the state’s case. Earlier, Dr Reddy had led a delegation of all political parties on Babli.

“It is high time to act in a united manner. We must leave aside our political differences and work for the state’s interests,” said the TDP leaders.

“If the Congress has the conviction, it is easy to settle the illegal projects’ issue. The Congress is in power at the Centre, Maharashtra and in AP,” pointed out Mr Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy, TD leader.

The MPs vowed to bring pressure on the Centre to stop the projects being constructed by Karnataka and Maharashtra. The MPs demanded that the Congress government mount pressure on the Centre to save the interests of the state.

The construction of dams would severely affect the flow of water into downstream Andhra Pradesh, the MPs contended.
