Former Pcc President and MLC D Srinivas on Tuesday stated that the party was not weak in the State.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Srinivas said that the party's debacle in the recent by-elections was caused due to strong Telangana sentiment in the region. However, he said the elections proved that the party was not weak and it has improved its position in some constituencies.

Srinivas said that he has briefed Sonia Gandhi about the latest political situation in the State and listed out the measures the party should take before the by-elections to be held for 18 Assembly segments. He said that Sonia Gandhi has directed him to take certain steps to strengthen the party.

Stating that the high command was seriously considering the Telangana issue, he hoped that it would announce a favourable decision on the statehood issue soon.

Responding to widening differences between Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said that Congress in-charge of state affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad would resolve them.
