 The top priority of the new Director General of Police (Dgp), Mr Girish Kumar, is making his department more accountable to the people and sharpen the professional skills of the personnel.
“The police should be responsive and should respond to the complaints of the people. Only then the department will be people-friendly,” Mr Girish Kumar told media persons on Wednesday before assuming charge as the top police boss of the State.

He said that the police should be more accountable to the law and should work within the framework. “Only then we can win the hearts of the people. This is certainly on top of my agenda as the Dgp,” he said.

He will also try to sharpen the professional skills of the police force. “Be it traffic problems or nay other related issues, the police personnel should update their skills and take the remedial measures accordingly,” he stated.

Mr Girish Kumar did not agree that the corruption levels are more in his department than any other government wing.  “However, that does not mean that corruption is not there in the department. I will certainly try to check the corruption levels in the police setup,” he observed. He will try to bring greater awareness among the public on graft.

Seeking the media cooperation for better performance, he said he would work to bring greater coordination among the senior IPS officers. He will treat any complaint from women as a serious offence and will deal wit it accordingly. “Attacks on women need to be controlled and I will treat any complaint from women, however trivial in nature, as a serious offence,” he explained.

The new Dgp feels that the abolition of the orderly system in the department as a reform. “In fact, doing away with orderly system should be welcomed by all,” he said and tanked the Rosaiah Administration for reposing faith in him and giving such a huge responsibility. He has total fait in the three IPS officers who are senior to him. “The are my good friends,” he added.
