Later, talking to reporters Pocharam said that his victory from Banswada seat reflected the aspirations of people of Telangana. He alleged that although the TDP did not contest from Banswada seat, but it used money and muscle power to ensure his defeat by secretly supporting the Congress candidate. He slammed the Centre for remaining silent on the Telangana issue even after 39 days of the Sakala Janula Samme, the general strike.

Pocharam also accused the State Government of trying to suppress the agitation. He said the government and police were feeling victorious after arresting some elected representatives from the region. However, he said that prisons would be insufficient if the entire population of Telangana starts participating in the strike.

Before taking the oath, Pocharam along with TRS floor leader Etela Rajender and MLAs Harish Rao, Gampa Goverdhan, K Samaiah and others paid tributes to Telangana martyrs at Gun Park. He then walked up to the Speaker's chamber to take the oath at 12.55 pm.
