The Telugu Desam Party has postponed its agitations to highlight the problems faced by the farmers in the Telangana region, from the earlier announced June 23 and June 24 to June 25, due to the demise of Telangana ideologue Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar.

Talking to media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan, Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Wednesday said that the party has decided to postponed the agitations as a mark of respect to Prof Jayashankar and in deference to the three day mourning period announced by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee.

Mr Dayakar Rao however made it clear that the agitations would go ahead as scheduled on June 23 and June 24 in the Seemandhra regions.

He called upon all Telangana leaders to make collective efforts for fulfilling the dream of Professor Jayashankar of a separate Telangana state.

Condemning the reports of pro-Telangana activists resorting to attack MPs who had come to pay tributes to the departed soul, Mr Dayakar Rao said that such incidents would send a wrong message to the people. He advised the protestors to observe restraint.

He expressed regrets for not being able to go to Warangal and pay tributes to Prof Jayashankar.
