Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao and Congress MP from Alwal constituency Sarvey Satyanarayana, nearly came to blows at a public function here today much to the merriment of all concerned. The occasion was to declare open a government school building in Bolarum, Alwal. Both the VIPs arrived at the venue as scheduled but some discrepancy was found as far as the protocol was concerned.

Initially the officers at the function were at the receiving end as the public representatives let go of their anger against the helpless officers. Later, the Minister and the MP had a heated argument over the protocol issue.

That went to such an extent that they could not contain their tempers which resulted in a filthy wordy ‘duel’. But according to sources, the said ‘duel’ offered a good scene for the spectators who came to watch the show. At a press conference later in the Secretariat, Dr Shankar Rao, poured vitriolic comments against the Mr Satyanarayana for interfering with his programme.

He blamed the MP for various reasons and said that Mr Satyanarayana was misusing the public funds and constructed a palatial building in Alwal. The MP, who was part and parcel of Telugu Desam Party and then Janata Dal earlier, joined the Congress party eyeing rosier prospects, Dr Shankar Rao reminded his audience. “Despite originating from other parties, he was offered posts and an MP seat but he was not doing justice to his post,” the Minister said, continuing his tirade.

Dr Shankar Rao also suggested that a building to house cooperative department be constructed and name it after N Amarnath Reddy, former Cooperative minister in Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy and T Anjaiah’s cabinet. Amarnath Reddy is the father of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. Earlier, there was a proposal to construct a college and name it after Mr Amarnath Reddy.
