Information and Public Relations Minister Dk Aruna on Wednesday categorically opposed the padayatra by former Endowments Minister Jupally Krishna Rao in Mahabubnagar district.

She took exception to Mr Krishna Rao touring in her Gadwel constituency also stating that it was uncalled for.

Kollapur in Mahabubnagar district is the constituency of Krishna Rao.

Ms Aruna also made light of Mr Krishna Rao’s padayatra stating that there was no proper support or response to his yatra.

“His yatra comprised of hardly 60 members with 30 police men forming part of the strength,” the Minister stated, adding that never before such a yatra with no public ‘response’ was held.

It may be recalled that Mr Krishna Rao had quit as Endowments Minister over the Telangana issue and as reported earlier, he undertook the yatra to demonstrate his support for separate statehood demand.

His resignation letter is yet to be cleared by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

As regards the ‘Telangana’ stir, Ms Aruna clarified that she had as well organized a padayatra successfully earlier and represented to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy over the contentious GO 610 recently.

In all likelihood, Ms Aruna will go on her own padayatra next month, to counter her Cabinet colleague's padayatra, according to sources placed close to her.
