So far Rs 2.74 crore has been seized in Kadapa District and the Income Tax Department will fully investigate into the seizures, said Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal at the Secretariat on Thursday.

Talking to media persons here, Mr Bhanwar Lal said that in all, 168 complaints have been received and replies to 70 such complaints have been given.

On May 4, the Police Inspector of Chinnachowk seized Rs 13,97,000 while on May 5, the Kadapa Town Inspector seized Rs 37 lakhs found in a Maruti Swift car while checking vehicles.

The amount was handed over to the IT Department, the CEO informed. As many as 316 vehicles were seized, Mr Bhanwar Lal added.

The Election Commission of India has banned the exit poll/opinion poll in the district on May 8, from 8 AM to 5.30 PM.

Canvassing was as well banned on the polling day and distribution of 11 lakh voter slips has been effected and the balance would be done later said the CEO, clarifying on a point that private distribution of voter slips has been dispensed with as it was not necessary.

Door to door campaign was also banned as it also amounted to a campaign. Further the public transportation including RTC vehicles should not be stopped in the district.

Fielding another question Mr Bhanwar Lal said that media personnel could travel in the district and there were no restrictions on them provided they had a valid pass.

May 8, has been declared as paid holiday to all the staff/workers in the factories, shops and establishments situated in Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency. So far 10,829 persons have been bound over and the CEO clarified that they could as well vote.

Further no officer on election duty was allowed to promote poll prospects of any candidate.

Police route mobiles – 267 have been deployed to cover all the 186 routes/zones. All the Zonal Magistrates and police SIs have been asked to work in coordination. 

Since the atmosphere has been congenial, the CEO has appealed to all the voters to exercise their franchise freely.
