The court directed the Vanathalipuram police to immediately arrest the ISI agent for fomenting terrorist activities in the state.

In the incident, two policemen were injured and had to run for cover after they came under fire while trying to arrest a former activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) Vikaruddin.

Vikaruddin is also a member of Daragah Jihad-e-Shahadat (DJS), a city-based rightwing organization, which trains Muslim youths in self-defence. Intelligence officials say all leads point the needle of suspicion towards Vikaruddin, who went into hiding soon after the blast in Mecca Majsid.

“We have information that he nursed grouse against policemen believing that the latter killed innocent Muslim youths deliberately in the name of quelling violence on that day,” a police officer said.

Six cartridges of 7.65 mm rounds were found at the spot at Falaknuma. Similar cartridges were collected from the scene at Santoshnagar after he opened fire on Counter Intelligence officials suggesting his possible involvement in the latest incident.
