Talking to media persons after launching his 70-km-long Harita Yatra from Ravulapalem in East Godavari district, the former MP demanded that the Centre should accord National Project status to Polavaram Major Irrigation Project immediately. Mr Jaganmohan Reddy also demanded that the state government materialize the 70-year-old long-pending demands of the people and also the dream of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and provide irrigation facility to the Seemandhra and Telangana regions.

Stating that the state suffered a major injustice due to the adverse verdict delivered by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal, Mr Jaganmohan Reddy said he has taken up padayatra to prevent inordinate delay in according of the National Project status for Polavaram.

The Kadapa leader added that the diversion of Godavari waters into Krishna river by the construction of Polavaram would benefit three regions—Coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema.

Stating that the state would become a desert if the project was not taken up, he appealed to Centre and state to make complete efforts for materialization of project and release of funds.

Former Minister and Ramachandrapuram MLA Pilli Subashchandra Bose, Anaparthi MLA N Sesha Reddy, Kakinada MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy along with Mr Jaganmohan Reddy's closes aides Bhuman Karunakar Reddy made elaborate arrangements for the Yatra.

The ‘Harita Yatra' will go through Obullanka, Lolla, Atreyapuram, Bobbarlanka, Ralli and will reach Peravaram village in the night and tour some of the villages in Konaseema.

On February 8, he will arrive in Rajahmundry. On February 9, he will proceed to Vegeswaram touching Pattiseema area and halt for the night. The yatra will reach Polavaram on February 10 where a public meeting would be held.
