The Telugu Desam Party would look to offset any gains by the ruling Congress party through the Racha Banda programme by launching the next phase of its own ‘Rythu Kosam programme from Guntur district from Tuesday.

A decision to this effect was taken at a party meeting at NTR Trust Bhavan on Monday which was chaired by party president N Chandrababu Naidu.

After emerging out of the meeting with senior party leaders, Mr Naidu told media persons that he would tour Guntur district on Tuesday and Wednesday and address the farmers through the `Rythu Kosam’ platform.

Mr Naidu said the party would intensify its agitation to highlight the plight of the farmers in the state, who are reeling under severe economic hardships. The agitation would continue till the farmers get justice and an adequate remunerative financial package is given to them, he said.

The former chief minister alleged that the government had started Racha Banda programme only to divert the attention of the people and cover up the loopholes in its administration.

The TDP would create awareness among farmers how they would stand to lose by the adverse verdict delivered by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal verdict, he said.

Mr Naidu would also tell the farmers that most of their problems have remained unsolved and they have been relegated to the background by an ‘inefficient and negligent government’

According to sources, Monday’s meeting also discussed the strategy to be adopted on the Telangana state formation issue.

The meeting was attended by Telangana Telugu Desam Forum convenor Nagam Janrdhan Reddy,  and senior party leaders Kadium Srihari, Harishwar Reddy, Devender Goud and Errabelli Dayakar Rao.
