Eluru MP Kavuri Sambhasiva Rao on Friday demanded disciplinary action against Congress Legislators who had supported the 48-hour mass hunger strike taken up by former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy by appearing on the dais close to the Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada in Krishna district earlier in the week.

Talking to media persons at media point, CLP office premises, the MP urged the Congress High Command to initiate disciplinary action on those leaders for violating party norms.

In all, two MPs, 27 MLAs and four MLCs attended the fast and expressed their solidarity with Mr Jaganmohan Reddy.

Among these Legislators were three Congress MLAs – Perni Venkataramaiah (Machilipatnam), Jogi Ramesh (Pedana) and Buchepalli Siva Prasad Reddy (Darsi). The two Krishna district MLAs remained on the dais until Jagan broke his fast.

Mr Sambhasiva Rao also tried to downplay the fasts launched in order to press the government to revise its relief package for rain-hit farmers by the Kadapa leader and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, saying that these were mere political dramas since the leaders themselves lacked commitment towards the farmers’ welfare.

He also stated that these ‘political dramas’ were aimed at garnering political mileage and support from the farmers.

When asked to talk about the Justice BN Srikrishna Commission report which is expected to be submitted within a week, the Eluru MP expressed confidence that the Congress party would stand by its recommendations.
