The overwhelming response to the mass hunger strike undertaken by former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy has rattled the state Congress but also the party High Command, said former MLA Bajireddy Govardhan Reddy on Tuesday.

Talking to INN on the phone from Vijayawada, Mr Govardhan Reddy stated that the mass hunger strike has put the Congress in jitters while the people of the state have realised that the absence of former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy among their midst has been filled to a large extent by his son.

He said that the unreserved love and adulation by the farmers for whose cause Mr Jaganmohan Reddy had taken up the hunger strike was very much visible by their huge turnout at the site of the mass fast.

Mr Govardhan Reddy said that the turnout was much better than expected, with over one and a half lakh persons, from the farming and non-farming community, heeding Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s call and thronging to the fasting spot near the Prakasam Barrage.

He said that people of the state, irrespective of region, religion, caste, creed or social standing had assembled at the spot to give support to the former Kadapa MP.

Staunch Jagan supporter B Ravolu Somireddy, a former DCCP chairman Nalgonda said that around 10,000 farmers from his district were present at the hunger strike and they will remain there till the 48-hour strike ends.
