Alleging that it depicted Dalits in poor light, leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Castes Welfare Association on Thursday demanded that the state government immediately ban the Hindi film ‘Aarakshan.’

The delegation of the SC Welfare Association met Chief Secretary SV Prasad and submitted a memorandum to him, asking him to take immediate steps to stop the screening of the controversial film.

The film has been cleared by the Courts for release but objections over certain dialogues and scenes have continued to pour in.

The SC Welfare Association leaders stressed that these objectionable dialogues and scenes must be deleted.

The film is directed by Prakash Jha with the high profile star Amitabh Bachchan in the main role. His co-star is Saif Ali Khan, the Association leaders told media persons at the Secretariat.

As of now the Uttar Pradesh and Punjab governments have banned the film which has also created disturbances also in Maharashtra, Bihar and Rajasthan states.

The producer’s version in the film was against those seeking quota, the Association leaders said and added that the film pained them as it was meritless.

The delegation was led by the Association leader T Padma Rao and others.

The team was accompanied by former APCC president Mallu Ravi. The team also met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and urged him to consider their request.
