Vijay Sethupathi Baththa Box Office Shows Gradual Growth

Vijay Sethupathi’s Baththa has earned strong audience and critical appreciation since its October 1 release. Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, the period action comedy drama has collected ₹10.05 crore India net and ₹11.68 crore gross worldwide in four days, according to trade tracking. Sunday delivered its highest single day collection so far.

Baththa opened modestly but improved steadily, with Day 4 generating ₹3.10 crore net and ₹3.60 crore gross in India. Tamil Nadu remained its strongest market, contributing ₹3 crore gross on Sunday. Positive word of mouth appears to be helping the film build momentum, although its overall numbers remain moderate for a Vijay Sethupathi starrer.

Set in 1986 Madras, Baththa follows a feared gangster accidentally trapped inside a deserted school restroom by an eight year old boy. Their unexpected relationship becomes the emotional heart of the film. Reviews have praised Vijay Sethupathi’s performance, the child actor’s work and Balaji Tharaneetharan’s balance of humour, emotion and humanity.

The film’s positive talk now faces its biggest test during the weekdays. A strong hold could help Baththa sustain theatrical momentum and benefit from the second weekend. With critics and audiences largely appreciating its content, the film still has an opportunity to convert favourable word of mouth into stronger commercial returns in the coming days.
