Vidya Balan and R Balki Reunite After 17 Years
Vidya Balan has started shooting a new Tamil film with filmmaker R. Balki, marking their reunion nearly 17 years after Paa. The actress confirmed the project through Instagram Stories, sharing a behind the scenes image with a script and the caption, “New Beginnings #NewTamilFilm with #RBalki.”
Vidya also shared a monochrome picture captioned, “A quiet moment before the madness begins.” In another glimpse, she appeared wearing spectacles with her hair in a long braid while holding the script. The yet to be titled project has gone on floors, but its story, character details, supporting cast and release date remain undisclosed.
The reunion recalls Paa, R. Balki’s 2009 Hindi film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan. Vidya played Dr. Vidya, Auro’s mother, in the acclaimed story centred on a child with progeria. The new Tamil project represents the actor - director duo’s first collaboration since that film.
Vidya also plays Kantha in Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth and scheduled for October 15, 2026. Her upcoming slate additionally includes an untitled Anees Bazmee comedy with Akshay Kumar and Raashii Khanna which is a remake of Telugu Blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunnam produced by Dil Raju, scheduled for December 4 release. The Balki project’s title and further details are awaited.
