Deepika takes Prabhas headon in Spirit controversy
Deepika takes Prabhas head-on in Spirit controversy. The controversy involving Deepika Padukone and Spirit director Sandeep Vanga refuses to die. Deepika opted out of the project stating working hours. However it seems there is more into it than just working hours. Producer Pranav Reddy, brother of Sandeep shared that Deepika also demanded 10% share in profits.
He said “Deepika Padukone has met Sandeep Reddy Vanga all of once in her life. Not to mention, the filmmaker arrived a whole hour late to the meeting! Deepika took the rest of the meeting professionally. In the meeting, only a one-liner of the film was shared. She didn’t receive a full narration of the film. Deepika never commits to a project without receiving a full narration. So, Spirit was never a part of Deepika’s consideration set to begin with.”
He added “The reason is the same as what was already mentioned. One was remuneration, the second was timing. Apart from that, there are some other reasons, too. Soon after, everything went overboard. See, she can ask for anything. If we are willing to give, we can give. But the economics should also work out for us. We thought that it was not working. This is why we thought of other options. Once we started looking for other options, they started leaking everything.”
Now, Deepika Padukone took the matters further stating that she is bigger than Prabhas. She said the makers are paying more to the protagonist and when she asked equal remuneration, they told her that they cannot afford that much. She said she starred in more films than the protagonist. Though she didnot name Prabhas, fans interpreted that she is referring to Prabhas and now started trolling her.
She said "By virtue of being a woman, if that's coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it," She continued "But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it's never made headlines."
She went further: "A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends."
Her larger criticism was equally blunt: "While the Indian film industry is termed as an industry, we have never really worked like an industry."
