Vishal’s Makutam - Slow Start In Telugu States

Vishal’s Makutam has opened in theatres today, but the initial response in the Telugu states is looking underwhelming. The film’s morning shows reportedly recorded below 20 percent occupancy across several centres, indicating a slow start at the box office.
In Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag, Tirupati and other major Telugu cities, the morning rush was limited, with a considerable number of seats still available for several shows. The low morning occupancy is certainly not an encouraging sign for a film that needs strong theatrical momentum from Day 1.
The situation did show some improvement during the afternoon shows, with footfalls picking up at a few centres. However, the overall occupancy remained moderate, and the film is yet to witness the kind of strong audience rush expected for a major release.
On the talk front, Makutam has received a mixed response. Vishal’s performance and a few action sequences are being appreciated, while the screenplay and overall execution have not managed to impress everyone.
The mixed talk makes the evening shows particularly important for the film. If the word of mouth improves as the day progresses, the film could witness better occupancy during the evening and night shows. Otherwise, the slow start could make it difficult for Makutam to build strong momentum over the opening weekend.
