Ram Charan Peddi Box Office Races Past 366 Crore

Mega Power Star Ram Charan film Peddi is still packing theatres in its second weekend. BookMyShow bookings saw a big jump today as more people booked tickets. The sports action drama has already become the top-earning South Indian film of the year by beating Karuppu. In just nine days it collected 366 crore rupees worldwide. With strong weekend numbers the movie is now close to crossing the 400 crore mark.
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi is set in the late 1990s and tells a story about sports, community pride and fighting against odds. AR Rahman composed the music. Janhvi Kapoor plays the female lead along with Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu Sharma and Boman Irani in key roles.
The film is getting a lot of attention online with posters claiming record numbers. Ram Charan carried the film with his strong screen presence and physical training for the sports scenes. The story tries to talk about identity and marginalization through the sport of kabaddi, but also uses many regular commercial film elements. The movie is doing best in Telugu states where Charan has a huge fan base.
Some scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor character received criticism after release and the makers made edits later. This shows the film struggled a bit with modern audience expectations while aiming to be a mass entertainer. Overall Peddi is a clear commercial hit. While it may not be perfect, Ram Charan performance and the emotional sports story are keeping audiences coming back to theatres.
