Ice Cool Samson powers India into T-20 World Cup semis. In the Super 8, Group A match, between India vs West Indies, which is billed as the virtual semi final clash, India entered into the semi finals by outclassing the mighty West Indies in Eden Gardens, Kolkota.
West Indies put into bat first by India, off to a flier before Varun Chakrawarthy pulled the brakes. Shia Hope, West Indian captain along with Roston Chase added 68 in 8 over’s before Varun castled Shia Hope 23 (33). Shirmon Heytmyer, started blazing and West Indies reached 100 in just 11 over’s and set their sights on the target of 200.
However, Bumrah (36/2) entered and got the wickets of Chase 40(25) and Heytmyer 27 (12) to leave West Indies at 103/3. When Pandya (40/1) accounted for Rutherford, West Indies were tottering at 119/4 before Ronowan Powell 34(19) and Jason Holder 37 (22) powered them to a respectable 195/4 in 20 overs. Axar Patel (35/0) didnot get the wickets but bowled economically.
Indian chase didnot go down smoothly as Abhishek Sharma 10(11) and Ishan Kishan 10(6) failing cheaply. However Sanju Samson, who got the reputation of failing after promising much, this time batted like man possed along with Surya Kumar. When Surya got out for 18 (16) leaving India at 99/3 in 10 overs, Sanju neared his 50.
Tilak Varma joined Sanju 27 (15) and he played a blistering cameo before it was ended with a good catch. Hardik Pandya joined Sanju and Sanju monitored the case calming the nerves of Hardik. When Hardik 17 (14), it was left to Shivam Dube 8(4) and Sanju who blasted a 6 and a 4 to power India into the semis. Sanju remained unbeaten on 97 (50). Both the teams spilled many easy catches and this once again proved that catches win matches.
