Vijay Sethupathi is teaming up with renowned director Mani Ratnam for a new film, marking their second collaboration after the 2018 action crime thriller Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. Sai Pallavi will join Sethupathi as the female lead, making it her first on-screen collaboration with the actor.
Speaking about the project, Vijay Sethupathi said, "I've worked with Mani Sir before, in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in 2018. This time, we will be doing something completely different." He emphasized his commitment to fresh storytelling, stating, "I want to make sure the Vijay Sethupathi who entered the film industry seeking small roles is still alive".
The film's genre, storyline, and supporting cast are yet to be officially announced. However, Vijay Sethupathi's dedication to his craft is evident, as he prioritizes new challenges and avoids remakes and sequels. Sai Pallavi, who will play the female lead, is also working on other projects, including Ek Din with Junaid Khan and Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
Sethupathi's upcoming projects include Pocket Novel, Train, Arasan, Jailer 2, and Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road. Mani Ratnam's last directed film was Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan.
