Kerala Story 2 starring Aditi Bhatia, Ulka Gupta, and Aishwarya Ojha in the lead roles under the direction of Kamakhya Narayan Singh is releasing on 27 Feb 2026.

The film's teaser and trailer left all shellshocked with unbelievable elements and the Censor Board which censored the film, shocked the makers by asking them to do away with many scenes.

Censor Board Cut the Rape Scene, Kissing Visuals By "50% Of Original" among 16 Edits before awarding the U/A certificate. The makers were also asked to cut down "lip-locking scenes" by half of the original time duration.

Visuals of women head-hitting have also come under the censor's scrutiny. The makers have also been asked to add a disclaimer stating that the story is based on true events. Among other modifications, visuals of accused house demolition with a bulldozer have been changed. Several dialogues were modified and words were muted.

Apart from it, a 26 year old biologist approached the Kerala High Court against the film. Sreedev Namboodiri questioned both the content and the title of the sequel, arguing that it unfairly targets Kerala and its people.

In his plea he stated  "A perusal of the trailer of the movie shows that the story is based on women from three different states and takes place mainly in the northern part of India. Yet, the title and scenes try to portray the state in a bad light. The movie tends to alienate Kerala and Keralites from the rest of India, despite the fact that Keralites work across India and the world, contributing to the Indian economy and providing residence and employment to several migrant workers from other parts of India."

During the hearing, Justice Kurian said that "concerns of the people of Kerala about The Kerala Story 2 can't be kept aside". Following the court's order, the makers of The Kerala Story 2 have stated that they are withdrawing the teaser of the film. The judge also remarked  “There is a wrong indication and can also incite passion. That is where the censor board comes into play."

The Court said “Once the movie is released, it is not just a creation. You are saying it is inspired by true events. It has a great bearing...In bold letters, you are saying inspired by true event. And in very microscopic letters you would have said the characters are all fictional,"

The Judge remarked “Normally, I do not interfere with any movie. Artistic freedom. But you are saying that it is inspired by true events and name Kerala is given, which can create some communal tension. I will watch the movie tomorrow. You can arrange a screening of the movie tomorrow.”
