Salman in trouble for misleading pan masala ads. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan landed in trouble for misleading ads while endorsing pan masala companies.
A complaint was filed against him and it was brought to the notice by Inder Mohan Singh Honey, a senior BJP leader and Rajasthan High Court advocate in the Kota Consumer Court.
The Consumer Court issued notices to Salman Khan and sought a formal reply from him. The case is posted for hearing later in this month on 27 November. Advocate Inder Mohan Singh Honey said "The company, Rajshree Pan Masala, and its brand ambassador, actor Salman Khan, claim that the product contains saffron and encourages young people to consume it. Salman Khan is a role model for many people. We have filed a complaint against it in the Kota Consumer Court and notices have been issued for a hearing,"
Inder Mohan Singh Honey has sought a ban on the advertisements, stating that the alleged misrepresentation could have wider social consequences. He questioned the credibility of the ingredient claims, pointing out that saffron, which costs nearly Rs 4 lakh per kilogram, could not be realistically present in a product sold for just Rs 5.
He added "Celebrities or film stars in other countries don't even promote cold drinks, but they are promoting tobacco and pan masala. I urge them not to spread the wrong message to the youth as pan masala is one of the leading causes of mouth cancer."
