Plans Are On To Release Thug Life On OTT Much Earlier Than Planned

Kamal Haasan's highly anticipated film Thug Life has taken an unexpected turn, facing severe setbacks despite its confident release. The film's producers had agreed to an 8-week exclusive theatrical window with Netflix, but due to its poor performance, they are reconsidering the OTT rollout plan. Talks are underway to stream the picture in South Indian languages within four weeks of its theatrical debut, much earlier than initially anticipated.

Thug Life collected around 80 Cr gross worldwide in its extended weekend, but the numbers drastically dropped on the first Monday. The film gathered only 2 Cr gross in Tamil Nadu on Monday, bringing the total to around 35 Cr for 5 days. The film's performance in the Telugu states and Kerala was also underwhelming, crashing from day 2 itself.

The film opened decently overseas but failed to maintain momentum, collecting around 4.5M for the weekend. The closing is likely to be around 5M, which is not impressive considering the film's hype.

Given the film's poor performance, an early OTT release seems likely. Fans are now eagerly awaiting an official announcement on the revised OTT premiere date. With the film's box office numbers unlikely to cross 100 Cr, the producers might opt for an early digital release to capitalize on the existing buzz.
